Sermon notes Pastor Kobe Orr

3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. 4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. Rom 12:3–8

Every Christian is called to serve in the church. vs. 4-6 Those who are in Christ are always being changed more and more into the likeness of Jesus. If you are a part of the Lords church then you have been given a gift. No exceptions! Every Christian is called to serve in the church. vs. 6-8 The purpose of our gift is to use it to serve in the church. They are not for our own satisfaction!! 1 Peter 4:10 Serve one another! Don’t be lazy! Find out what your gift and calling are and use it to serve the Lord by serving other people! Your gift can be used by God to spread His Gospel! God expects us to use it for Him. He did not give us gifts to hoard and keep them locked in a closet. Church isn’t meant to be for me but is actually me. We are all one body! Working together in a real community towards glorifying God with our lives! You don’t know what God might do through our faithfulness! When the people of the church step up the whole body will benefit! The church body is only healthy when all of its parts are functioning correctly and in sink with each other.

Serving forces us to grow in humility! ROM 12:3 Serving is a forceful reminder that our life is not about us. It forces us to reorder all the things that we love. You can see our hearts in our actions and our priorities… God came to serve us by saving us from ourselves! Many like what the church can provide but don’t love enough to give back and contribute. Less then 50 percent are serving. If your to busy to serve in church then the church isn’t the problem but the active disobedience to God is your problem! If your not actively serving in the church you are robbing yourself of so many blessings and your cheating all your brothers and sisters around you. You have no clue what God can do through you. Are you serving???

How do you determine your spiritual gift? Start with prayer. Ask God what and how He wants us to serve! What do you enjoy? Do not assume that if you enjoy it that God is not in it! What are you good at? How can you use your gifts and talents to serve the Lord? God gave us all the gifts and talents we have for these very purposes. Find out where there is a need in the church and get involved! The priority is to serve and get involved asap!

APPLICATION:

Continue to serve with the youth. I want to get involved with guys struggling with addiction. Help others fight the same battles I faced and face daily in this struggle against sin. Stay in the word and keep God’s filter in its proper place. Stay humble and thankful no matter what happens!

IN HIS NAME!
