17 I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. 18 For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive. 19 For your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, but I want you to be wise as to what is good and innocent as to what is evil. 20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Rom 16:17–20

As I finish my study of Romans I’m reminded by Paul to always keep on guard. Don’t allow myself to get complacent. I am not sure who said it first but walking with the Lord is like swimming in a river. If you are not actively swimming up stream and putting in the effort then you will be instantly swept backwards. You will lose control and just crash into anything that crosses your path. When you choose to live for the Lord your choosing to be different. Believe me when I say that it is a whole lot easier to just go with the flow and follow everyone else. It is a daily battle that sometimes feels unattainable. Thank God for the hope that comes from knowing Christ!!! Knowing He has already had victory regardless of how I feel!

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Rom 15:13

At the end of the day that is what we hold on to. Faith in Christ and the hope that one day we will be with Him in paradise. The more you read His Word and the more you pray, the more your faith will grow. And with that comes more belief and more hope and that is followed by true lasting peace. Even in the worst of times God has comforted me with that peace. Lord may I remember that you are the God of all comfort and that You are the only thing I need. Help me to actually materialize that prayer and physically turn to you in my time of need! Thank You for Your Word!

APPLICATION:

Stay in the Word. Read and pray. Think about my actions and use God’s Word as my filter. When I’m needing comfort go to God’s Word and pray. Allow Him to fill me with the lasting comfort that can only come from Him. Pray Pray Pray!
