• 26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groaning too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. Rom 8:26–27

Such good news to hear! You know when your just stuck? Sitting there thinking what am I doing and how did I get here…? It’s so awesome to hear that The Lord has got my back. Even when I’m so lost I don’t even know what words to say, the Spirit is there. He is interceding for me all day long. Even when you feel all alone God is there! Praying words so deep and powerful that all human languages fall short of explaining their meanings. That gives me so much comfort and confidence knowing God is there. And He isn’t there because He has to be… No! It’s because He loves me and wants the best life possible for me on this side of heaven. And it’s good knowing that when I’m praying for things that I don’t need, that God is in the background cleaning up my thoughts.

    APPLICATION:

Stay in God’s Word! Keep my mind full of God’s Word. Use the Word to filter everything I do throughout the day. Quit making excuses and change the things in my life that don’t honor God! Be humble! Stay in prayer! Stay thankful!! Thank You Lord for everything you do everyday!!!

35 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” Mt 9:35–38.

Duet 4:7 Compassion= deep internal feeling of mercy. God sees us in our suffering! vs.36 Jesus does not look at His people with guilt and shame. He has compassion. Ps 139: 1-4 He sees us and He is aware of us. And it’s not because He has to. It’s because He loves me and cares for me! Ps. 56:8

God feels our suffering! vs.36 He doesn’t see us as a problem to be solved but loved us enough to help us when we couldn’t help ourselves! John 1:1 He willingly subjected Himself to every aspect of sin. Heb 4:16 But He didn’t sin! He can fully relate to anything we could be going through! He knows what it’s like to be abandoned. He knows what it is like to suffer loss. He knows what it is to suffer physically. The King who should have been worshiped was spit on by everybody. Isa 53:3 His empathy is accompanied with action! He will relieve the problem! Pity sees the problem and empathy helps you through the problem. God cares about our present suffering! He sees it and presses in to deliver!! Ps 34:18 YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN!!! 1 Pet 4:7 Matt 11:28 Isa 42:3 Jesus meets us in our weakness! Lam 3

Our God Cares! This is why we pray. God still intervenes! Today is the day to come home!!! God is full of compassion just like a father to a lost son. Don’t separate yourself from the love of Christ. Don’t lose sight of the cross!! Rom 5:8 Do not allow sin to block your view of the cross! Get rid of it! God sees us and feels with us! Run to God in your suffering! He is inviting you to run to Him! Go to the Word! Come to worship! Engage with the community! Gal 6:2 Adopt God’s heart of compassion for others! Be Jesus for others! We should show eternal compassion. Just like Jesus does for us every minute of every day. Adopt Jesus heart of compassion for others around us. God gave us a hope and now it’s up to us to share it with the lost. Thank You Lord

    APPLICATION:

Don’t hide the hope of Jesus! Live out what I believe. Do not be scared of what others think. Apply scripture to every area of my life. Be humble and have compassion for others.

  • 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. Rom 8:18–19.

Eagerly waiting for the revealing of the sons of God. This verse gives me so much confidence. Knowing that I will not be perfect but that the fight that I’m going through is worth the battle. It gives me endurance and strength to keep fighting when all else starts to seem hopeless. If I take my eyes off of my situation and put it on God then it starts to make the problem I’m facing seem very small. The more you fill your mind with the Word the more the less important things will start to disappear from your thoughts. In the eyes of eternity most of our problems are really meaningless. God has won the battle and Jesus has given us access to the family so everything I do comes from a place of love and wanting to please the Father.

Just imagine what heaven might be like. How could you not eagerly await for paradise?? To be in the presence of God. To see Jesus in all His glory. For all pain and sadness to be gone. All sickness and death will be forever destroyed. Hopefully past loved ones and saved family members will be there and it will be such a glorious time with God. Thinking about those truths should be able to encourage you through anything you could face here on this planet. Yes things will be tough but it will be worth it! Keep the fight!

12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Tim 6:12.

    APPLICATION:

Keep my mind full of God’s Word! Actually apply God’s Word to my life. Serve the Lord in my mind with my thoughts no matter what the situation is. Keep an eternal view on EVERYTHING! Don’t sweat the small stuff. Stay Humble. Be thankful! Make sure my actions are matching my words! Thank You Lord!!

  • 13 For if you live according to [the dictates of] the flesh, you will surely die. But if through the power of the [Holy] Spirit you are [habitually] putting to death (making extinct, deadening) the [evil] deeds prompted by the body, you shall [really and genuinely] live forever. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. Romans 8

The more time you spend in the Word the more God will expose things in your life you need to change. Some things the flesh just holds on to and will return to with little or no fight from you. You can feel the battle between flesh and spirit just raging at times and then other times the flesh can just slip things in and you wont even realize it until it’s too late. It is a war that will wage until the end of my life. I cannot stop that but what I can do is serve God with my mind and thoughts and continue to kill the things of my flesh as God changes me from the inside out and leads me towards the life He intended for me. These words are so encouraging and faith building! Knowing that the urge to want to please God and kill the things of my flesh doesn’t come from me but from the freedom Christ gave me when He took all my sins to the cross! Praise the Lord!

When there is something inside you, leading you, to want to glorify God and kill the things of the flesh, that’s being led by the Spirit. And verse 14 says those being led by the Spirit are sons of God! We are a part of something so great and powerful that there is truly nothing left to fear! With Christ we will genuinely live forever! How great is that news!

    APPLICATION:

Stay in the Word. Keep God’s Word in my thoughts always. Filter my decisions and think about what I say before I say it. Stay humble. I don’t deserve anything! Be thankful! Continue to kill the things my flesh uses to separate me from God. Believe the truths of God and give no time to the lies of the enemy. Be thankful! Thank You Jesus!!

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. 9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. Jn 1:1–14

Be reminded of who God actually is! In Jesus we encounter the presence of God. Emmanuel= God is with us! Jesus is the literal presence of the Lord with His people! JESUS IS GOD! Through Jesus ALL things were made. He was in the beginning. Jesus is God and He is outside of time.

GOD, IN JESUS, CAME TO BE WITH US! Jesus came into the world to give us life! Without Jesus we are left hopeless. Jesus is a light that can never be put out. John 8:12 The rescuing grace and love of Christ is the message of Christmas. John 1:11

How will you respond? Jesus has come so what are you going to do about it? The Word became flesh meaning that Christ came and died in my place. He came and did all this stuff so that we could be a part of His family! God is with me today! Right now! When we see Jesus we see God’s love for us and His commitment He has made to us. He is with us! Ps 34:18 Matt 28:20 Isa 41:10 LOOK TO JESUS!

    APPLICATION:

Do not listen to any lies from the enemy. Stay in the Word. Stay humble! Honor God in my mind all day long!

3 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Col 3:1–4

What do we desire? How do we think? Heaven is the full experience of God’s goodness! Heaven= a gift of God’s grace given to us because of Jesus! Through Jesus we are citizens of Heaven who should live like it here and now! Phil 3:20 That truth should impact everything!

Remember that Jesus makes us totally new! vs.1-3 Completely different, spiritually dead became new thru His life death and resurrection! Our sins are eternally forgiven! Our relationship is right because of Him! Christ gives us a new mind, new heart, new thinking, a completely new creation! 1 Cor 5:17 Our allegiance is now in heaven so live like it!

Remember that we are to desire and think heavenly things! vs.1,2 Our desires expose our thinking and beliefs. What direction is my compass needle pointing? Is Jesus honored as King and Lord of your country? Who is the Lord of your life? My allegiance and desires should be marked by peace and aligned with where I’m from! I am from Heaven! My allegiance is to Jesus Christ! My job is to bring the ways of heaven into my home! If you will sin to get it then it should be removed from your life! Remember that it is God who answered our needs! He is always present! The greatest thing about heaven is we will be near the Lord. 1 Cor 4

Is there a piece of my life that is un-heavenly? Not under the Lord’s lordship? Go before the Lord and ask for help! Get active and immerse yourself in God’s Word! Changing your desires takes practice. Let the frustrations of your failures push you closer to Him!

Remember that our future is totally secure! vs. 3-4 We are hidden by Christ! Secured by His Word and His promises! This truth should change all our actions and all our desires! Thankfulness and love that just drives us closer and closer to Christ! It changes our affection towards other believers as well! We have a new home so live like it now!!

    APPLICATION:

Keep Gods word always on my mind! Believe all these truths by faith and serve the Lord in my mind all day! My citizenship is in heaven so I want to live like it today! Stay humble! Thank you Lord for all these truths! So unbelievable! I am so thankful!!!

  • 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Rom 8:3–8

These are my favorite verses in the entire Bible! Not only is this the gospel and news that frees and lifts you up but it is telling you how to apply the gospel directly to your life! With clear guide lines and obvious signs to watch and know if you’re doing and thinking about the things you should. Ways to test yourself. If I could only memorize this scripture for the rest of my life it is enough to encourage and drive me in the right direction. So many times in the middle of a struggle I will soon realize I’m completely focused on my flesh and the worldly circumstance that I am facing. As I take my focus off my problems and it shifts to the Lord everything just starts to get lighter. The weight and pressure slowly disappear and once my eyes return to being fixed on Jesus my problem I was so involved with just seems to melt away. Focus on Jesus and what He has done and all of a sudden nothing else matters!

There is a great reminder at the end. Those who are in the flesh CANNOT please God. A stark reminder that my flesh is hostile to God and I will have to battle it daily to remain focused on the Spirit. Nothing good comes from focusing on myself and the flesh! But the rewards are the Spirit are so evident! I want life and I want peace! True lasting peace that can only come from Him! And I know because I have tried to find it every place I could. Nothing fulfills like the comfort and peace that comes from having a right and honoring relationship with your Heavenly Father!

Now the mind of the flesh is death [both now and forever—because it pursues sin]; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace [the spiritual well-being that comes from walking with God—both now and forever]; Rom 8:6

Keeping an eternal view as you go through your day and it will start to change everything! Be focused on the Spirit and spreading the love and kindness of Jesus to everyone as you go through your day! Each day is important and can be used by God. Focus on the Spirit so you can see God working and be used by Him to reach others!

    APPLICATION:

Keep my head up. Don’t look at myself or the problem I’m facing. Focus on the Spirit and keep my mind full of the Truth! Don’t believe the lies of the enemy! Christ has set me free! Live that freedom with His strength! Preach the Gospel to my family daily!

  • Sermon notes.   Pastor Dustin S.

16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. 17 These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ. 18 Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, 19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God. 20 If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations— 21 “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” 22 (referring to things that all perish as they are used)—according to human precepts and teachings? 23 These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh. Col 2:16–23

We are called to resist any effort to change the gospel of Christ! Followers of Christ are called to resist legalism. Legalism- conforming to a certain set of rules so you will experience God’s acceptance. Eph 2:8-9 We are saved by grace alone! Gal 5:1 Stand firm in Christ where there is freedom. Don’t trade God’s grace for the bondage of a bunch of rules! 3 SIGNS OF LEGALISM: Checking spiritual boxes instead of a relationship with Jesus. You’re hyper critical of other believers who don’t measure up to your standards. You’re constantly trying to chase after God’s approval. ROM 8:1 You didn’t deserve it then and you don’t deserve it now!

Followers of Christ must resist false teachers! Don’t be scammed by unbelievers! Acts 20:29-30 Do not trade God’s grace for a yoke and a bondage of sin. God’s word feeds us and keeps us healthy! Jesus is the only way! False teaching takes Jesus off of the throne and out of power. TEST: Does the teaching exalt Jesus and His gospel? Salvation is by Christ alone! Does the teaching promote Christ like living? Does it lower God’s standard and make sin more comfortable? Does the teaching align with what faithful believers have understood throughout history. 1 John 4:1 Anytime you hear a new teaching it needs to be tested! Identify false teaching. Take personal responsibility to protect yourself and your family from false teaching! You’re responsible for knowing God’s word! IN NEVER CHANGES! The Gospel is worth fighting for! Stand Strong and fight!

    APPLICATION:

Protect the Gospel. Fill my mind with truth! Don’t believe the lies! Stay close to Godly men I can trust. Thank You Jesus!

  • 8 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. Rom 8:1–2

No means no! This is the place where the enemy can get into my mind and really do damage. Like a Rolodex of the past my mind can throw up thought after thought of my mistakes and the horrible things that I did from my past just pound my mind and show me reason after reason of why I deserve condemnation and why I definitely couldn’t and wouldn’t get a gift of grace like this from anyone let alone the creator of the universe… How fast my mind can fill with real things that I have to face everyday in direct results to my horrible mistakes. Real consequences my whole family has to endure because I chose to be disobedient. But Thank you Lord for this promise. For lifting the heavy weight of sin off of my chest. Giving me a path to you and the freedom that comes from your grace and mercy and love!

No condemnation means no condemnation! I can now fight without all the wight of the past weighing me down. I have freedom to fight! Freedom that comes from knowing that Christ has already won the battle! He has done all the hard work and now I can fight along with Him. I don’t have to worry about all my mistakes and make choices out of fear but I can be confident knowing my savior loves me and He is for me no matter what I do! That love ignites a passion for wanting to be obedient out of thankfulness! It tells me that I do not have to earn my place in His family! I have already been called His child so that gives me the freedom to keep going even when I screw up. I know my Father is there and He loves me! That pushes me to want to be better every day!

    APPLICATION:

Today I will not let the weight of my mistakes weigh me down. Christ nailed ALL of my sins to the cross so I don’t have the right to keep bringing them up. Lord give me mercy and the freedom and strength to never go back to the old passions of my flesh! Help me to serve you in my mind and thoughts and allow you to continue to destroy my flesh! Thank you for everything!

  • 21 So I find it to be the law [of my inner self], that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good. 22 For I joyfully delight in the law of God in my inner self [with my new nature], 23 but I see a different law and rule of action in the members of my body [in its appetites and desires], waging war against the law of my mind and subduing me and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is within my members. ROM 7 amp

It is kind of scary how much this scripture fits into my life. I battle everyday with dying to my old self and trying to remove all the things that don’t glorify God. I want to do good and follow Christ but I can see the desires of the flesh and there are times when I fail and I give in. Is it because I’m not good enough or I love my sin more than I love God? I know that statement is not true! Thanks to God’s word I know what to do! I will serve God with my mind and my thoughts! And pray God gives me grace and helps me remove all the rest!

24 Wretched and miserable man that I am! Who will [rescue me and] set me free from this body of death [this corrupt, mortal existence]? 25 Thanks be to God [for my deliverance] through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind serve the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh [my human nature, my worldliness, my sinful capacity—I serve] the law of sin. ROM 7 amp

Thank you God for knowing I was going to need you! For knowing everything I need before I even do. Thank you for reaching me! Thank you for delivering me from my corrupt immoral existence. You are the answer! I pray you have mercy on me for I am a wretched man that needs your grace and forgiveness!

    APPLICATION:

Read the bible every single day! No excuses! I need to stay connected to the source! Keep my mind and my thoughts completely flooded with God’s Word! He is the answer. He is the way to true happiness and freedom from the corruption of sin and the flesh! Read and pray! Stay humble! I don’t deserve anything!
